We Are Adults

I stopped dating men about a year ago and began dating women. I just can't seem to embrace most men's thinking when it comes to roles in relationships. It seem like they always want to be the leader of the relationship, but they never want to earn the respect it takes to be the leader. I just don't embrace that caveman way of thinking. I am a modern woman and I expect to get treated like an equal. If a person can't do that, they are not for me.

I am a thirty year-old woman, good looking, with a great job, and a good head on my shoulders. I feel as if I deserve someone to be good to me and treat me well. I found a nice young lady named Belinda who stopped dating men for the same reasons as me. We see eye to eye on most issues, especially regarding women's rights. She is sympathetic to the fact that I have been unappreciated in my past relationships and makes it a point to be attentive to my needs even in the bedroom. She picks up with a lotof the sensitivity that the men in my past life have lacked. She is only the third woman I have dated, even so, I feel very comfortable with her.

My soul feels content with being with a woman. I plan on telling my family that I am a lesbian in a week. Ithink they are going to be surprised that I have stopped dating men, because my family has this misconception that lesbians are butch acting andIam feminine. I hope they will be happy about my decision, but if they are not I cannot worry about it. I need todo what makes me happy. I plan on telling themat home over a family dinner. Hopefully they don't choke on a chicken bonewhen they hear the surprise!

I don't think I was ever comfortable dating men. Even when I was in high school, I felt awkward at prom with my date. He tried toto have sex with me in the limo, and I got so uncomfortable that I got outof the car and ran all the way home! I think this feeling had always been in me; I justneeded time to find myself. Belinda may be the one that completes me.I am thinking about asking her to marry me. Wow! I think my life is really going in the right direction!
