We Are Adults

Kerry was 'people spotting' in London. It involved just wondering around London for ages, observing people from a distance, and trying to guess what was going on in their lives. She found this very interesting, and was at her favourite 'people spotting' place - Starbucks coffee shop. As she sat sipping her coffee and watching the people around her, her attention was grabbed by a young couple sitting on a sofa by the window. She had always been interested in young couples in London, as she found the london dating scene fascinating. The boyfriend in this couple was fidgeting badly, yet every time he looked up he gazed at his girlfriend with such love that Kerry almost felt lonely. She wondered what he was so nervous about - maybe he was getting ready for a proposal! Kerry sat up straighter and gripped her coffee mug excitedly. If there was going to be a proposal, then she would be the first to know about it! She loved trying to anticipate peoples moves before they had made them, and she was getting quite good at it! The girl looked up at the boy and said something to him. Kerry couldn't make out the words, but she heard the tone in the girls voice. She was annoyed. Kerry frowned, "this isn't what the boyfriend needs!" she thought to herself, "he needs her to be nice to him to reassure him and make him less nervous!". The boyfriend looked terrified now, and actually left the table. "He probably made some sort of excuse about needing the toilet" thought Kerry to herself. She subtly glanced around the corner that the boy had just disappeared around, and saw him pacing up and down the short corridor. Nearly 15 minutes passed before he came back again, and the girl was looking very fed up sitting on her own. When the boy came back, she made a visible effort to be nicer to him, and the boy seemed to relax abit. "Ooooh" thought Kerry "brilliant! Now there might still be a proposal!" she almost rubbed her hands together with glee as she watched the couple.Suddenly something happened that Kerry hadn't planned for - she needed the toilet! Cursing herself she rushed to the ladies, trying to spend as little time as possible, soshe wouldn'tmiss the big event! She was as quick as she could be in the bathroom, and she hurried back into to her table. As she sat down she realised something was wrong- the couple had gone! "Noo!" thought Kerry to herself, "Ive missed it!!". She sat there quiet for a minute, letting the disappointment fill her. Then she got up, left Starbucks, and headed to Cafe Nero across the street. "There's sure to be some more interesting people in Nero!" Kerry said to herself as she embarked on yet another people watching session.
